Citizenship Law

The prospect of acquiring Turkish citizenship through investment significantly influences the decision of foreigners to purchase homes within Turkey. Favourable changes in exchange rates further contribute to the attractiveness of real estate investment for foreigners in Turkey.

According to Article 11 of the Turkish Citizenship Law, regulations governing property acquisition by foreigners for Turkish citizenship through investment are specified. The statute outlines, 'A foreigner aspiring to acquire Turkish citizenship may do so by decision of the competent authority if he or she meets the standards outlined in this Law.' However, meeting these requirements doesn't guarantee an absolute right to citizenship.

While various investment options exist for the exceptional acquisition of Turkish citizenship, real estate investment remains a popular choice for most citizenship applications.

To qualify for Turkish citizenship through real estate investment, a minimum of 400,000 US Dollars or an equivalent amount in foreign currency or Turkish Lira is required in cash. This is subject to the property not being sold in the land registry within the preceding three years, with no condominium or floor servitude established. The Ministry of Environment and Urbanization must verify that the contract, issued by the notary public and committing to the sale of the invested property, has been recorded in the land registry with a three-year restriction on transfer or cancellation. Vigilant monitoring of these processes is crucial for safeguarding both the investment and the right to apply for citizenship earned through investment.
